In 1794, Ezra Sties published his description of what he believed was the primary hiding place of Whalley and Goffe between June 24th. Since then, the place names and features that he used have been lost. Today, a few trail signs make vague references to "the Lodge" and Hatchet Harbor but these locations to not match up with the visual descriptions or the relative locations given by Stiles. I cross referenced the modern topography and the few names given to features of the Edlersie trail area with the places that sin his history and the letter he included. When I set out that morning I expected to find little at all that was consistent with Stile's reports, due to their speculative nature and the passage of time altering the topography. However I found exactly what he described, exactly where he said it would be,
